Reflection on spirituality
Spirituality can be many different things. Some may see spirituality as a sense of connection to something bigger than themselves, to be loving to ourselves and to others, and to have a sense of peace and purpose. Spirituality may be connected to religion for some, and not for others. Spirituality may be faith and trust in the universe or God or whatever name it may be for you. Spirituality may involve a gratitude practice, meditation, prayer or mindfulness.
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin said, “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.” How do we embrace our human experience to the fullest?
Life is beautiful and amazing but also can be difficult, unfair and confusing. How do we see and feel all of this with an open heart and open mind? Can we look at all that life presents us and embrace it equally, allowing ourselves to really feel all of these emotions and not see them as positive or negative? It may feel easy to embrace joy, but do we allow ourselves to also equally feel grief, or anger without judgement?
How can we be more mindful and present in our day to day? I like to try and bring awareness to all of my five senses throughout the day. I bring this mindfulness practice to preparing food, doing dishes, taking a shower, or walking my dog...allowing my awareness to be in the present moment, with whatever I am doing.
How can we be more present with being human?
What is spirituality to you?
Do you honor all of your emotions and feelings equally without judgement?
What does mindfulness mean to you?
